Breakdown diagnosis
For lifts stuck at the top, bottom or halfway, we investigate symptoms and appropriate mechanical, electrical and safety checks. We cannot promise a repair until the cause has been identified.
When a stairlift breaks down, the first priority is finding out what has caused it to stop. Stairlift Surgeon provides independent mobile stairlift fault finding, maintenance and repair for Stafford households and surrounding villages.
With over 10 years of experience working on Acorn and Brooks stairlifts, we can help customers decide whether a fault can be repaired, whether parts are needed, or whether further assessment is required. We explain proposed parts and charges before fitting.

Stairlifts may slow down or stop when the batteries fail under load or charging is interrupted. Testing helps distinguish battery faults from other charging issues.
A service can include safety edges, interlocks, swivel and seat checks, rail condition, bolts, charger operation and running performance, appropriate to the model.
If you are having new stair carpets fitted, we can discuss suitable stairlift removal and refitting arrangements, including whether the lift needs to be dismantled.
Before you ring, make a note of the stairlift make, any fault code, whether it charges, and the point at which it stops. Avoid attempting to bypass safety devices or force a stuck lift to move.
